Glamping summary

The Canvas Frills Lodge at Hidcote Manor Farm is one of the tents that are located on this working farm set in the Cotswolds in Gloucestershire. The family run farm is just two hours from London and one hour from Birmingham and includes a National trust gardens that has been described by the National Trust as some of England's greatest.

The farm is in an area of about 300 acres and is an Area of Outstanding Beauty that has been in the family for three generations. The Hidcote Manor garden was created by the American Lawrence Johnston in the first half of the 20th century as a series of outdoor ‘rooms' combining masses of colour with traditional crafts such as topiary.

The farm and surrounding areas are a haven for wildlife, with bird plots planted that are host to skylarks, lapwings, and finches. Guests can find badger setts in the farm and they can be seen in the summer months. The farm is half arable and half pasture with 450 breeding sheep.

Lambing takes place in March and early April and guests can help to bottle feed the orphan lambs. Unfortunately, this means that dogs are not suitable for the farm. Any stay includes a tour of this working farm.

Glamping description

The Canvas Frills Lodge has a double bed, a bunk bed, and a single bed, sleeping a maximum of six guests. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower and basin, a flushing toilet, deck chairs, an outdoor cooker, an extended canopy for the covered veranda, and cold running water. The lodge comes with a starter pack made up of wood for heating and cooking, starter pack candles, and lamp oil. Kitchen linen is provided and there is ample parking space.

The small market town of Chipping Campden, home of the arts and crafts movement is just four miles away along a footpath. Broadway, the "Jewel of the Cotswolds" is a little further away by car. Within a 20-minute drive, are many different attractions including Cotswold Falconry Centre, Batsford Arboretum, and Bourton-on-the Water's Birdland, model village and motoring museum. Guests can also easily visit Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon birthplace, with its Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Ann Hathaway's cottage and river cruises.

Hidcote Manor offers easy access from both London and Birmingham: two and one hour's drive, respectively. Lovers of the Cotswolds will find the farm irresistible. The tents are a stone's throw from the honey-coloured limestone hamlet that clusters around gorgeous National Trust gardens, described by the NT as some of England's greatest.
