Glamping summary
The Canvas Frills Lodge at Lower Rodhuish Farm is one of five tents that are located on this working farm set within Exmoor National Park. Half in Crown Estate and half family owned it is only ten minutes' drive through country lanes to Blue Anchor Bay's pebble beach. A recent RSPB survey revealed that there are over 52 species on the farm including barn owls, yellowhammers, and linnets.
The family have farmed on this spot since 1929 and the 850-acre farm is part livestock and part arable. There are 150 lambing sheep and 40 Devon Cross cattle. There are pigs, chickens, turkeys, and beehives. They also grow wheat, oats, barley, peas, and beans on the farm, which visitors can see on their farm tour. Guests can take part in the apple pressing in season and there is a playhouse in the tent field, and an informal tennis court. There are also rabbits, guinea pigs, and ponies. Any stay includes a tour of this working farm.
The five tents are spread across two cosy paddocks behind the 17th century farmhouse and unfortunately, because of the sheep, pets cannot visit the farm. The views from the tents are excellent with views of across the sea to Wales, and the islands of Flat Holm and Steep Holm. Guests can fly kites, picnic in the grassy hollow and explore the surrounding countryside.
Glamping description
The Canvas Frills Lodge has a double bed, a bunk bed, and a single bed, sleeping a maximum of six guests. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower and basin, a flushing toilet, deck chairs, an outdoor cooker, an extended canopy for the covered veranda, and cold running water. The lodge comes with a starter pack made up of wood for heating and cooking, starter pack candles, and lamp oil. Kitchen linen is provided and there is ample parking space.
Porlock Bay, Dunster Castle, Watchet Harbour, Tarr Steps, and the West Somerset Railway are all on the doorstop of the farm. On the August bank holiday weekend, Watchet Festival is a great music festival with stunning coastlines and three stages of live music. It is five miles away and can be heard from the farm when the wind blows towards the farm.
