Glamping summary
The Canvas Frills Lodge tent at Hoeve den Overdraght farm is one of the tents found at this site in West Flanders, Belgium, only about 30 miles from Dunkirk. This farm is far from ordinary with nine breeds of special and rare sheep grazing the meadows and providing their woolly warmth.
The name Overdraght means a dock, a quay along waterways and it was chosen, as the farm is now a welcoming place for guests to stop and have a relaxing break. The farm has been part of the landscape for many years. It was built around 1850 and has the distinctive Flemish roof. The third generation of the Louwagie family now runs the farm. With an eye for the rare and special in choice of sheep, their own wool production at the farm, plus Holstein cows, the farm has built up much that is worthy of seeing.
The renovated cowshed is now an ideal agricultural education space for exhibiting wool processing techniques and machines, and for hosting workshops. Guests can get involved and process some of their own wool.
Autumn is a busy time, being the mating season, 5 months after which, the lambs are born. There is always some way in which guests can join in with the farmyard activities including helping to bottle-feed the lambs. Whatever the season, visitors on their family holidays meet the animals in the meadows and find out about sheep that are rarely seen these days.
