Glamping summary
The Canvas Frills Lodge at TaarTenTuin is one of the tents that are located on this working farm, close to the Nieuwkoopse fenlands in the village of Aarlanderveen in South Holland. The farm is just 30 minutes’ drive from Schiphol airport and an hour from Amsterdam but it is still an authentic South Holland farm experience.
Any stay at TaarTenTuin includes a tour of this working small-scale farm that has a large diversity of animals. There are many rabbits, cows, pigs, sheep and chickens and guests can help welcome the new-born animals in spring. Although it is a small-scale farm, it is still full of life and there is never a dull moment. The old barn has been converted into a café and the farm shop is well stocked with home grown vegetables, dairy products, and wine.
Glamping description
The Canvas Frills Lodge has a double bed, a bunk bed, and a single bed, sleeping a maximum of five guests. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower and basin, flushing toilet, deck chairs, an outdoor cooker, an extended canopy for a covered veranda, and cold running water. The lodge comes with a starter pack made up of wood for heating and cooking, starter pack candles, and lamp oil. Kitchen linen is provided, there is a BBQ provided, and there is ample parking space.
The area around the farm, the Nieuwkoopse fenlands, is known as the green heart of the Netherlands and is among the most important wetland areas in the country. The reed and marshlands are excellent places for bird spotting as they host bird species such as the Purple heron, Bitterns, the Great reed, Savi's warbler, and bluethroats. The fenlands have a great visitor centre and the area is a perfect place for hikes and bike rides. Guests can also take in the stunning views by boat or canoe. Further afield, guests can also visit The Hague, Utrecht, and the coastal resort of Scheveningen.
