South African cabin at the Costa de Prata
Enjoy Portugal on a glamping holiday, while still having everything under one roof
- Everything under one roof
- Glamping close to the beach near Leiria
- Bedrooms separated from the living area
- Private terrace with an amazing view
- Fully equipped kitchen
Are you looking for the glamping experience without staying in a tent? Look at this South African cabin on this Costa de Prata quinta close to the sea. This is your way to live life a bit more basic, while still having everything under one roof. And all that with the beautiful nature and weather that Portugal is known for!
A glamping home with everything under one roof - what does that look like? In this case: like a wooden cabin, with a living room that has a dining area and a relaxing area. You'll be able to have dinner with the family at the table like you're used to, and after dinner you just plump down in a comfy chair.
Unlike many glamping homes, the bedrooms are separated from the living area, so you won't be sleeping and living in the same area. One person wants to get up out of bed earlier than the other? No problem!
All those possibilities inside, but how about outside? Well, you'll have your own terrace to enjoy the nice Portugese evenings with the family, with a great view over the valley and all the farms in it. And last but not least: there's an outside kitchen that you can use. Consult the owners if you're planning on doing so.
THINGS TO DO
For the kids, this stay will be the time of their lives! There are a lot of animals to cuddle, such as sheep, goats, donkeys, little pigs, chickens, a cat, a dog and even a big turtle! You can even have a little ride on a donkey!
The beach is only 10 kilometers away, so you'll be there in no time. Once you're there, you have enough options for beaches; Sao Martinho do Porto, Salir do Porto or Foz do Arelho are all nearby. Are you on a holiday with the kids? No problem, there are enough beaches that are very suitable for kids. You can even learn how to surf at one of them! But otherwise, there are also places to enjoy the rough sea.
There's also a lot of culture to see close to the quinta. From the Seven Wonders of Portugal, three are within 30km distance! In Alcobaça you can find the biggest monastery in Portugal. Another monastery can be found in Batalha. And in Óbidos, there is a big medieval castle that is very well-preserved. All those are very imposant buildings and are definitely worth a visit!
Last but not least, the landscape makes this region a great place for hiking. The owners can provide you with hiking routes on request. And also for other questions, they're always willing to help!
About the area
There's enough things to see and to do in the Costa de Prata area. There are a lot of beaches on the coastline, the choice is yours! Enjoy the rough sea at Praia de Nazare, a big beach to catch some wind on a hot day. Are you with the kids? You can also go to Sao Martinho do Porto, Salir do Porto or Foz do Arelho. The water is calmer and more pleasant, so that's definitely suitable for kids. At Foz do Arelho you can even learn how to surf if you like!
Don't feel like going to the beach? There is a big aquatics park in Nazaré as well, Norpark, with a lot of slides. Not feeling like going anywhere? The little swimming pool on the quinta might be just what you need.
It's not all beaches and swimming at the Costa de Prata. There's also a lot of culture to visit. In the city of Alcobaça, you'll find Mosteiro, the biggest monastery in Portugal, and one of the Seven Wonders of Portugal! The place has a lot to do with the establishment of the state and therefore has a prominent position in Portugese history. Definitely worth a visit!
Other than the Mosteiro, you can find two other Wonders in the nearby region. Visit the Castle of Óbidos and see a fortified medieval town that is still very much intact, or go to to Batalha and see the big monastery from the 14th century.
As you can see, enough to do in the nearby region. Ask the owners if you need any information, they will gladly help you!
In October 2014 we (Claudia, Lars and our son Fadi) moved from the still beloved Amsterdam, to a small village in the beautiful Central Portugal. We didn't want to leave the Netherlands so much, but we were lucky enough to be able to work at B&B Quinta Antes o Vento, set up by the parents of Lars. We are glad to have taken that opportunity! Although we do not live on the Quinta ourselves, but in the village about 4 minutes away, we are found on the Quinta on frequent basis. And if we are not there, we are always nearby. Look forward to see you at our Portugese glamping!

Fantastic in the Rondavel!
We had a wonderful holiday in the Rondavel on the Quinta with our children of 1 and 3 years old. We were warmly welcomed by Lars and Claudia late at night and led to our stay with flashlights. We woke up in the morning and heard goats, we couldn't wait to see what our surroundings looked like! When we opened the door we had a wonderful view over the apple orchard and the valley. We had wonderful privacy at the Rondavel, but our daughter could also easily play with the other children on the grounds and the trampoline. Loek prepared fresh sardines on the bbq one evening, delicious and cozy with all guests. Our children also loved the donkey and the other animals! We received good tips to explore the area and have been on the road a lot. Day trips to the beach, city trip to Caldas da Reinha (very nice city park) and visited a real Portuguese market. We enjoyed delightfully, felt incredibly welcome! Recommended!

Easy to slow down here!
We had a great time here in "our" Rondavel on the prairie in Portugal! Beautiful place that meets our search criteria namely: small-scale, child-friendly, centrally located near villages and beaches, authentic and a stay with some luxury (separate bedrooms, toilet and bathroom, space, privacy). On top of this, another sweet attention from all residents, Loek, Francine, Claudia and Lars, Fadi including animals! We hardly saw our 6-year-old girls when we were at home, they were busy feeding and hugging the goats, sheep, donkey and mule and playing with the other children on the Quinta (top purchase is the trampoline). Be sure: Monastery in Alcobaca and (fresh and cheap) snack food at hip corner restaurant, Fatima, Tomar (including reservoir), Nazare, Lisbon, S. Martinho do Porto, Foz do Arelho.
