Eco-Friendly Yurts in Looe

West Kellow Farm is an eco friendly solar powered yurt campsite (with mains back up) situated on an organic farm in the beautiful and historic fishing village of Polperro in Cornwall. Guests have the chance to get back to nature and have a relaxing break from the modern day grind. Whilst at the farm, amongst doing various other activities, guests can cook on an open fire, enjoy a BBQ, relax in a hammock/sun lounger, forage the hedgerows or just relax in the peaceful field and enjoy the sounds of nature.

The aim of the eco friendly philosophy is to have little to no impact on the environment whilst saving money. The power comes from a quarter of an acre of solar panels in one of the fields and the water comes from a natural spring on the farm. There is soak away drainage and the wood for the log burners comes from old wood from trees that nature has felled. Campfire wood is recycled from broken/dismantled barns and stored next to the logs. Lastly there is also a clear recycling unit for card/plastic/glass and newspapers/magazines.

The Barn Owl yurt is one of the earlier designs for the yurts. Inside it has a comfortable double bed, a sofa that also folds out into a bed, and a log burner to make a stay here as comfortable and relaxing as possible. The Barn Owl yurt can comfortably sleep 2 adults plus 2 children if required on a fold out sofa bed. Alternatively, guests can put up a separate tent right next to the yurt for children to stay in. The yurt is enclosed by a split bamboo fence, which encloses a hammock, sun lounger, a picnic table, and some pallet seats. It has a wood burner, tea light candle lantern's and a small cooker to make a cup of tea.

Just outside of the yurt area is a fire pit for sole use of the Barn Owl yurt guests. Guests can try cooking dinner using kebab skewers or just simply toast marshmallows as the sun goes down.

This is the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with nature. Guests can relax in their own hammock/sun lounger found in each yurt enclosure. There is a large wildlife pond with some spectacular views. There is a football goal, welly wanging, two swings and a swing ball (plus 9 acres of field for rounder's etc.). Each yurt has its own seating area, but there is also a large communal table that could fit a large group of friends and family around for a banquet. The village of Polperro is a ten-minute walk away where visitors can explore the shops/pubs/restaurants. Guests can drive to Looe beach, which is 10 minutes away and enjoy the famous fishing town's local food/establishments.

If you want to use your yurt as a base from which to explore the surrounding area then the owners have compiled a handy booklet detailing over 60 local attractions and 20 places to dine locally. There is always something to do, whatever the weather.
