You will be off-grid, but with solar lighting and USB charging, so if wild camping is for you, why not allow yourself a little bit of luxury on your Portuguese adventure. Listen to the birds whilst having a cool drink on your private terrace, overlooking the bubbling down with direct access to the river, and sole use of the glamping area.

Explore your stay

Location and Surroundings

Situated in the foothills of the mountain town of Marvão, and a short drive from the lively town of Castelo de Vide, we are a 28 hectare farm with olive terraces, ancient cork trees, willows, elder, and ash trees.

Your Accommodation

You will have a generous 5 m bell tent and your own deck overlooking the river. There is a very comfortable king size bed, feather pillows, and all the linen you will need. There are portable LED lamps by your bed. There are hand and face towels, plus larger ones for those river dips. There is a head torch and a power charger. Both the door and all four windows have mosquito nets.

Facilities and Dining

This is "wild" glamping, so there are no cooking facilities available at the tent, but there are plates, cups or glasses, and cutlery for your picnics. Naked flames are not allowed during the high temperature season, sorry. We can offer a list of very good local restaurants and bars, including a vegan restaurant and a craft ale bar.

There are two loungers on one terrace, and an outdoor dining table with benches on another.

Up at the workshop, there is access to a kettle, fridge, power outlets, and charging sockets.

There is a basic compost loo and a camping shower.

Important Information

Please bring a torch, as it is a dark site with uneven ground and steep sided terraces.

Nature and Activities

We have a wild river to explore and swim in, plus our mountain to climb for that sunset beer. Come and marvel at the dark night skies and wondrous stars. Watch out for our visiting cows, butterflies, vultures, eagles, owls, golden orioles, bee eaters, and more. You may even see an otter or a mongoose. Come in October, and you can experience the olive picking season with us.

About the area

Serra de São Mamede Natural Park

The natural park of Serra de São Mamede is rich in local history, scenery, and biodiversity. The area is excellent for walking, mountain biking, bird watching, and visiting Neolithic tombs and Roman ruins.

Outdoor Activities and Experiences

If you like outdoor activities, you can paddleboard at the dam, take the railbike along the disused train lines, or go horse riding along the old smuggling routes that the area is famous for.

Nearby Towns and Local Festivals

There are many small towns nearby offering a wide range of restaurants, including vegan options, a craft ale bar, and supermarkets.

There are also many local festivals to enjoy, including FIMM, the International Music Festival in July, and the Castanha, Chestnut, Festival in November, held in the very pretty nearby castle town of Marvão.

Rachel

If you are looking for some luxury on your Portuguese camping adventure, we are here to welcome you! Originally from UK, we are now making the Alentejo our home with our fuss-loving moggy! Our valley is still a small piece of untamed Portugal, with wild swimming in the river, and a 360 degree view over the mountain. Its peace and quiet is amazing, and the 'dark' night skies and stars, a marvel. We look forward to welcoming you to share it all.
