Any stay at Hoeve Banenburg includes a tour of this working traditional Dutch dairy farm. The farm is a mixed farm with around 60 dairy cows, cattle for beer, and fields for growing corn, cauliflower, and potatoes.
The cows are kept in the nearby Vrouwenpolder nature reserve, which is very close to the farm. They stay there for most of the summer. Guests can visit the cows and reach the reserve very easily and it is not far away. Guests can also take a bike tour from the farm and the beach. The farm has a new stable with many horses and guests can help take care of the horses, walk with the ponies, or take riding lessons. The farm also has an original hayloft, the perfect place for children to play.
The Canvas Lodge has a double bed, a bunk bed, and a single bed, sleeping a maximum of five guests. There is a flushing toilet, deck chairs, an outdoor cooker, an extended canopy for a covered veranda, and cold running water. The lodge comes with a starter pack made up of wood for heating and cooking, starter pack candles, and lamp oil. Kitchen linen is provided and there is ample parking space. For an additional extra, guests can also buy a campfire cart. This a movable cart including wood to make the fire, a hanging saucepan, marshmallows, lemonade, and sometimes bread dough or popcorn. It is the perfect way to enjoy a campfire.
The farm offers traditional horse-drawn carriage rides both open air and closed and they are a fantastic way to see the surrounding areas. It is also the perfect way to visit the nearby historic towns. The farm is an ideal base to explore the attractions of Zeeland and there are many activities nearby. The countryside is magnificent, and the forests are full of varied wildlife and are perfect for cycling and walking. Guests can also try crab catching in the nearby harbour of Veere.
