Glamping summary

The Canvas Frills Lodge at Layer Marney Farm is one of the tents that are located on this working farm found at a startling historical Tudor location. The farm boasts the tallest Tudor gatehouse in England and is barely an hour from Greater London.

Any stay at the farm includes a tour where you will meet Peggy and Darcy the beautiful black horses, learn about the rare goat-like Castle Milk Moorit sheep breed here, and feed the greedy pig. Then there is the spider's climbing frame behind the barn and more by the Poultry Palace. The surrounding fields are home to the flock of sheep as well as the wildlife of the area including deer, owls, and foxes, perfect for your glamping farm holiday.

The tents nestle in a beautiful spot in the birch, ash and alder trees that you'll share with pheasants, woodpeckers, Muntjac and owls, some tents facing fields that are home to red deer. All tents come with a private shower, and there are outdoor hot tubs as a bookable extra. Rising above, the tower's brickwork and terracotta glows in sunshine as it must have done in Henry VIII's time when it was the tallest gatehouse yet built, and still offers amazing coast views. There are rented bikes and an honesty shop. There is also a stone pizza oven.

Glamping description

The Canvas Frills Lodge has a double bed, a bunk bed, and a single bed, sleeping a maximum of 6 guests. The excellent West Mersey Beach and Colchester's Leisure World are just 20 minutes' drive away, and ten minute away is Jungle Adventure. Then there is the nature reserve and Colchester's castle and zoo, all perfect for a day trip.

We (my daughters and I) had a great and adventurous weekend - especially my eldest girl cause it was her birthday that weekend.

Even better then the pictures - great glamping!

This glamping was ideal for our big group. We were looking for a superb glamping with good value for money outside of London. The accommodations were even better then the photo\'s: very comfortable with good quality beds and sheets, as well as great hot showers. \r\n\r\n\r\n
