Shielings are unique carpeted cottage tents, found in three glorious acres by the sea, with this great view of Ben Nevis. A beautiful site, there is a wildlife trail, and an enchanting coastline to walk the dog. The ideal base for Mull, the site is within easy reach of the local pub, shop, cafe, ferry, buses for Tobermory and Iona. Guests can walk to swimming pool, castles, and hills.
The Shielings have been in use on Mull for 30 years; they are big, airy, dry, fireproof, bright, and very strong. Guests will have the comfort of a cottage, but will still be at one with nature, listening to sea and birds. Shielings were originally the summer cottages of Highland shepherds tending flocks by mountain and shore.
The ensuite Shielings sleep up to six people.
The Shielings are not insulated, so bring plenty of warm clothes to avoid being cold if there is a gale. Please also note that in the Shieling field, where the views are stunning, cars go up to pitch and pack, but are then left in a car park nearby, to protect both grass and environment.
The Shielings all have electric lighting, so guests can charge batteries and use hair dryers. All the heavy things like table, chairs, cooker, worktops, carpets, curtains and beds and pillows are standard. Cots and high chairs are free if available. Guests can ire a Shieling cooking kit from us for £3 per night or £16 per week, and Shieling bedding for £4 per person per night or £18 per week. You can also hire a gas cabinet heater @ £4 per night, £18 per week.
The site is rich in habitats of sea, shore, bog, grassland, and woodland. There is a map, and Reception has a check-list so children can tick things off as they find them.
